the gamblers would lose if they took in 300 dollars in a

day. Gamblers sometimes win and sometimes lose.

Re-examined: -Previous to the last six months during which we lost $700 we made about $3,000 profit from the end of the Plague.

and receipts.

The ledgers shew correctly the expenditure

The articles pledged were pledged by all sorts of people. Some traders amongst them & coolies. Among 10 gamblers there would be only one petty trader. The reason is that arrests were not frequent. The reason that we shut the door when the Inspectors past was to show them some res- peat. We closed the door when European Police who received bribes past in order to show respect to them and not to let the people know in the street that they were bribed. Accord- ing to the books/from the 1st. to 12th.days of 1st, moon the receipts were $1,852.90 & the expenditure $2,252.30 leaving

a balance to debit of $399.60.

To make up a loss of $7,000 for the last 6 months I do not know how much receipts and expenditure it

would take.
